Master of Science in Internet Engineering
Internet Technologies II
Marlboro College Graduate Center. MSIE Program. Winter Trimester 2001.
Instructor. Mark Francillon
Course Description:
- Part I. The first term of this sequence focused on core network-,
transport-, and application-layer Internet protocols. This trimester we'll start
off by looking at the operation of those protocols in the context of the current
Internet, in particular in the context of current Internet security.
We'll try to characterize the state of play in Internet security, and look into
what can be done in the way of ensuring the confidentiality, integrity
and authenticity of network communications and systems.
- Part II. The second section of the course focuses on system design and
construction. We'll look at the technologies available for construction of
heterogeneous distributed systems; we'll design and implement such a system;
and we'll study the performance of these sorts of systems.
- Part III. IT2 concludes with a consideration of emerging technologies.
This year we'll focus on peer-to-peer networking.
Course work: will consist of two system configuration projects, one due
on Monday March 18th, the second on Wednesday April 17th.
