The basic business problem which the Townshend, VT, Historical Society hoped to solve through the redesign of their web site is to enable their small organization with limited resources to create a completely virtual collection of historical information available to anyone in the world who is interested in it. They cannot nor do they ever see themselves being able to house and staff a physical collection and see the web as a great tool for realizing their goal by creating a virtual collection.
Christopher Cardillo, a designer from the Internet Strategies Management program, and I developed a way to build and maintain this virtual collection, as well as ways to display and distribute newsletters and manage society membership.
Technologies used include XHTML, Java, JavaServer Pages, Jakarta Tomcat, Postgresql, and Redhat Linux.
